Homemaking 4 My Guys

Thoughts on Homemaking, Saving Money, Faith, Family & A Life Worth Living

My name is Marilyn.  I am a Christ follower, a wife and a mom of three awesome young men, a daughter, sister and friend.

I was blessed to grow up in a home with parents who loved the Lord, shared His love with us and gave my siblings and I a stable home filled with laughter, love and fun. I describe our growing up years as a cross  between “Leave It To Beaver” and “The Brady Bunch”.

Our parents taught us by example what a great marriage should look like, the value of hard work, discipline     and compassion.  We had a great example of managing the resources the Lord had given us and sharing them    with others by opening our home up for hospitality as well as serving Him in this manner.

Our mom stayed home with us kids.  Homemaking and child rearing were her career and she did it very well.  I have learned so many life lessons from my mom.  She is the master budget stretcher, meal planner, bargain hunter and household hint extraordinaire.  She is one of my heroes.

I too love to be at home.  I love to cook and bake.  I love to have people over and share a meal and conversation, if we play games or watch baseball, that’s icing on the cake.

Like my folks, I love to find a great deal, whether that be at a thrift store, a garage sale or the grocery store.   I also am an avid reader, a die hard St. Louis Cardinals fan, a board & card game fanatic.

I love to soak up the beauty of the world the Lord has made for us in the open spaces while camping, hiking and fishing.   I enjoy spending time in the Word and in conversation with friends.  I also adore munchkins. Grand-kids will be great fun someday 🙂 You may occasionally come across some of these loves (or obsessions) of mine while on this site.

Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I have my struggles and I am a very flawed human being, saved only by the grace of Jesus Christ.  I am thankful that every day the Lord gives us a clean slate., ” Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning” Lamentations 3:23.

I want my epitaph to be like Ruth Bell Graham, the late wife of Billy Graham.  She made Billy promise to have these words put on it: “End of construction, thank you for your patience.:  He kept his promise, I have posted the picture.  It is one of my favorites.50px-Gravestone_of_Ruth_Bell_Graham_IMG_4206

Now you know a bit about me.  A number of my friends have asked that I share some of the things I do to save money.  That brings us to this website.  This seems to be the easiest and most convenient way to share what has been shared with me.

I hope it is a blessing to you and your family.  Some of the ideas/recipes on this site will allow you to better use the resources God has blessed you and your family with.

Please note that many of these items come from some other creative genius’ than me.  Many of these women have blogs that I follow.  They deserve all the credit and I will list their websites for you to check out yourself, if desired.

Thanks for stopping by.  I pray your time here is beneficial and an encouragement to you.  As Romans 1: 12 says, ” When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours..”

Feel free to drop me a note. if there is something I can help you with.  If it is something I do not know, I will search for an answer to your questions.  Like you, I am still learning.
